Monday Recap

TWO OUTS!!! It seems we had a mini-PG convention this weekend in St. Louis, home of this years All Star game. That's right, Baby Bisho, T-Dub, and Mr. Hackman united for a night of boozing and bashing. No word yet on casualties, but I'm guessing it got pretty ugly. So if you're out there today, pray tell. Special thanks to Baby Bisho for offering a ticket to the Futures Game as well as tonights Home Run Derby. I'm pissed I couldn't get down there. Last time I had a offer like this, Yankee Mike was ordering me to hop on a train from Boston to New York for the Yankees-Mets World Series. I sat that one out and have regretted it ever since.

Is everyone tuning in to the derby tonight? I'm not as much of a fan of the derby as I am the goings-on during the derby. Players milling around, taking snapshots and video of everyone. I like the interviews, the behind the scences stuff. It's always fun to get an inside look at the action.

Baby Gorillas-5
Lawndale Longhorns-5

Wow, tying the Gorilla's. A dubious achivement. I might be a pussy, Linc(as mentioned in Friday's comments). But you're team is playing like they have one.

Jimmy's Daddy-7
The Rockpile-2
Tied-1

Hef pulled the old switcheroo and sent Rocky Mike to the depths of PG East (don't worry, Rocky Mike, it's gonna take a lot to hit rock bottom. The Daddy's have a swagger, as referenced by his mouthy ways on the blog lately. His pretty close to being dubbed a complete team. Except for the saves, of course.

Cornholers-6
Year 2000!-4

Calls to 3K went unanswered this weekend, could he be giving PG a taste of his own medicine? Or was he so focused on beating Fenway Ed? Year 2000! made a late push, but to no avail. .500 in PG West is a tough place to be. That's 2nd in PG East. Just sayin.

Hoosier Heat-7
Client #9-2
Tied-1

Hackman, I hope you gave Baby Bisho all kinds of shit over beers this weekend in The Lou. Bisho has a strange sense of priorities, in that he'll get fired up from a little fantasy baseball ribbing or Ritz-Carlton softball games, stuff like that. Hope you didn't go easy on him.

Tallcorn Cobras-10
CO Yankees-0

PG wanted a skunk and a skunk is what PG got!!!!!!!! See Yankee Mike, that's karma from berating me on the blog last week (and those half-assed trade offers you threw my way Friday night). The quality of your trade negotiations is directly proportional to the love you receive from the fantasy Gods week in and week out. It's fantasy 101, Yankee Mike, it's not rocket science.

Clark & Addison-6
The SwinGERS-4

I wanted a skunk here but The Ger just wasn't having it. A very nice push for the SwinGERS, but at the end of the day, the more successful McCreery carried the day. Hey Ger, any reason why you played Skip Schumacher over Ryan "4 Bombs and 15 RBI" Ludwick?

There you go PG.. A nice skunk for you...

I am sick of my team being so close yet so far. And for putting together another crappy Sunday.. My team likes to only work 6 days of the week...

And, PG, just saying, but when do you think we will ever see a subway series again???

Sulceski said...

When you lose 10-0 I think it's safe to say your team underperformed all 7 days, just not on Sunday.

I should of beat Fenway Ed 8-2 this week but a blow up by Buehrle yesterday, and Heath Bell imploding, killed ERA and WHIP for me. As good as my pitching was at the beginning of the week, it was as comparitively bad at the end of the week.

When do rosters have to be set for this mini-week? And who else out there thinks that this week should just be combined with next week for a lengthier matchup instead of a short matchup. This mini-week scares the begeezus out of me.

Hey Yankee Mike, don't you feel like the "Subway Series" isn't worth a damn anymore because of interleague play? When I was younger, I always thought of a Yankees-Mets World Series like the final battle of the apocalypse, just because they NEVER played each other. Interleague play has clearly took the mystery and anticipation out of situation.

As far as when rosters have to be set for the week, check your Fantasy homepage....

No Derby for me - Berman saying "back, back, back..." causes my dog to suffer seizures.

Instead Wrigley Bridget and I will be watching the final two episodes of Harper's Island.

Kind of like Kramer with Mary Hart.

I won't go as far as to publicly admit that I'm going to watch some show called "Harper's Island" (just sounds gay), but I'll probably only catch the end of the derby. Got a ballgame at 6pm, so won't get home until 9ish. I"m sure it will still be going strong as it has become the longest, most boring, event. If not for Erin Andrews I wouldn't watch at all!!

By the way, when will we ever get some other skill competitions back in the game? Remember strongest arm and fastest man. How cool would it be to see some of the speedsters lining up for the fast time around to 1B?

PG - I agree with you when watching it on TV and going to a regular season game...

But that atmosphere for Game 2, in Brooklyn, in the city, outside the stadium and inside the stadium is something I will never forget...

Yes, getting beat 10-0 sucks, but 4 categories decided by 3 or less is what really pisses me off. Going in to Sunday it was 3-7 so I had a chance to possibly tie it up...

PG said...

I'm with you, 3K...bring the skills competitions back. Put the old trash can behind second base and let's see these catchers put the biscuit in the basket.

Let's put the trash can at home plate and have some outfielders show some accuracy (on second thought, better not, I don't think any outfielders can hit home on the fly).

I'd love to see a fastest time to first base competition. Better yet, let's line up 5 guys in the outfield and do a 50 or 100 yard dash.

Better yet, let's get Jose Reyes out there to race some Olympian sprinters.

Sulceski said...

I think the quickest to 1B would be cool to see. Who is the quickest out of the box? Then I would also like to see 1st-to-Home, and who has the quickest time. I think just running a straight dash doesn't correlate to anything in baseball. We use feet not yards in this game!

Harper's Island is actually a pretty good horror film style series. If you like horror movies it is actually a really good series, right down to the bad acting.

Don't knock it until you try it 3K...

PG said...

I knew you'd find something to disagree with, you always do.

The reason why I like the dash is simply because they used to do it back in the day (I believe Rogers Hornsby narrowly lost to legend Jesse Owens in a race).

Well ... its seems like day 13 of an all-inclusive tropical vacation. i.e., I've drank non-stop.

STL is looking to contain 1/4 of pg sportsworld, not sure that is happening.

If Bisho offers a summary, bullet items should include Hardee's spokesmodels, monsoons, and Fehr's niece.

Sulceski said...

Oh this sounds like fun, please let us be lucky enough to read a full-on synopsis of This Week in STL! Maybe we can even get Mel Allen to do the voice-over....how about that...

I really was distraught this morning after realizing what could have been if I just had another closer....

My only comfort was the realization that I probably would have lost 3 offensive categories had I made the trade PG offered for said closer....

That's doubtful..when you cherry pick your stats, I'm sure you can even make Jay Bruce look good (what with the broken wrist and all). What a shame.

Sulceski said...

I'm guessing that PG and Daddy won't be doing business together anytime soon. Actually what would be funny is if PG actually brokered a deal with C&A, thus giving C&A the boost they might need to overtake 1st place in that weak-ass division.

I won't watch the HR derby either, I cannot stand Chris Berman. It used to be I could take him doing just football, but even that has become too much.

A skills competition would be awesome, but I'd like to see the fans get included in the action. Let's see Joe six-pack get in the cage and try to hit a fastball thrown at him by an all star.

T-Dub said...

I'll be at the derby with bells on. I am a bit shocked to see the negativity towards it ... although Berman is a bit of a doucher trying to keep it exciting, I can't disagree. I watch both nights every year, though.

Hackman and I headin' down now. You guys enjoy The Hills or Intervention ... whatever it is you'll be doing instead.
