And We're Off...

Yes, Nick Swisher pitched for the Yankees last night. Yes, Nick Swisher homered last night. He also worked the concession stands, did the radio play by play AND color commentary and laundered everyone's uniforms after the game. I would appreciate it if we just move on and act like last night never happened. Oh, and one last thing, I'm not a baseball expert by any means, but someone should tell Joe Girardi that he probably should have a long reliever on his pitching staff.

BTW, Gabe Kapler, you should be ashamed of yourself. How in the world do you get rung up by Nick Swisher?

Free agent Orlando Hudson hit for the cycle yesterday, well done!! I wonder how long it's gonna be before he gets picked up as a free agent? A few things here- 1. I like the fact that O-Dawg hustles around the bases after hitting a homer. No cadillacking it, no stutter-step at each base, none of that. Straight up bid-ness!! 2. How much of a deal are the Dodgers getting for Hudson? Did the O's overpay for Brian Roberts or did the Dodgers get O-Dawg for a song?

I knew karma would catch up to me when I drafted Jon Lester. Damn you Beantown!!!!

Hey 3K, so far so good on that trade we made (for everyone involved). Pleasure doing bidness with you.

The only thing more impressive than the 5 bombs the Gorilla's hit yesterday is the fact that C&A is pacing me with 3 of his own. And i've gotta be honest, Linc, your 10 RBI are starting to worry me a bit.

How ironic, I question Team Spitzer's pitching staff and lack of stikeouts just yesterday and they go out and punch out 30 in one day. Well done guys.

Let's practice our phonics. PG is to Jon Lester as Yankee Mike is to Mike Pelfrey. Note to self, never look for a starting pitcher in boys town. Got it!!

Something tells me that this fantasy season is going to make a Yankee fan out of Hoosier Heat. He's rooting for AJ and CC and most likely cursing Jacoby Ellsbury(if he isn't, he should be). This has to be the way God intended it.

Hef, give me a call if you want to unload a closer.

Here come the Longhorns, the mighty, mighty Longhorns. Last week the chip was successfully installed on their shoulders. I'm afraid they have something to prove this week.

I'm wondering if T-Dub would ever sit Jeter in place of Miguel Tejada? .207 is pretty tough to swallow.

The Rockpile had a day like the New York Yankees. Abysmal pitching, lackluster hitting. Let's move on....

We're all very impressed, Ger. Kevin Youklis is leading the AL in hitting. Too bad Ryan Braun is hitting like Lloyd Braun. And I'm not talking about the assistant to Mayor Dinkins Lloyd Braun. I'm talking about the nut ball, Chinese gum chewing, landmark movie theatre frequenting, serenity now Lloyd Braun.

I knew I should have drafted Travis Snider!! And the Shin Soo Choo experiment continues with success. Looks like he's putting a little extra MSG on his bat (zing pow!!!!).

I've got some bats, PG, but I'm concerned about my arms. Liriano is getting worked and Lidge is my only source of saves. Which reminds me, I'm in the market for a closer so for those who cornered this market, shoot me a reasonable deal.

I got three closers so I could be tempted.

Tie-breakers. I'll quit asking, but its killing me to not have a response, PG. I'll accept no answer on the waiver priority reset if you'll throw me a bone about this tie-breaker being about bench players. You just can't find the button to click to take that off, right? Still searching ... doesn't get in the way of the fact I love this league and this blog.

I started Tejada last week, Jeter this week. Lookin' to steal a bag or two, seem to have plenty of pop in the bats without Miggy.

That was the thought ... And started Mora (bc Guillen is limp), now he's limp, too. DeRosa always finds a home, doesn't he - probably could get a start next week.

Linc, I would listen to a possible trade for a closer but after checking your roster I'm afraid we don't match up as I couldn't find a reasonable deal.

PG, I'm of the belief that the best trades are those that workout for both parties. I was happy to come to an agreement and look forward to many more connections over the months.

I want Swish back on the South Side. I propose a trade. I'll send Mike MacDougal and Jerry Owens to the Yankees for Nick Swisher. Figure Swisher can fill both of the roles of bench player/5th OFer and mop-up guy in the 'pen.

Oh, never mind the White Sox just signed Scott Podsednik to a minor league deal...."DON'T STOP BELIEVIN'....." Seriously, the only good thing about this signing is the possible Lisa Dergan sighting at US Cellular this summer.

If I had known tie breakers come down to bench players I don't think I would have drafted a bunch of minor leaguers who MIGHT get called up before the all-star break. I'm with T-Dub on this.

And another thing - major props to PG on the league set up and the blog updates. Having a blast with it so keep it coming!

Sorry, T-Dub...I didn't mean to sidestep the issue...The daily rant got in the way. I wanted to get everyone else's thoughts. I just thought it was a good way to ensure there were no ties at the end of every week (AND it allows you to keep engaged with your bench players). But I hear you on the "a lot of our reserves are minor leaguers" argument.

What does everyone else think here?

I think it's a moot point because this league really comes down to how many WINS your team accumulates. If you can't win the category outright then that is your bad.

For my vote, I can go either way on this, but if a decision is made to change the ruling then it must be done right away, and retroactive to week 1.

How's WANG treating you? That was hilarious

I would hate having playoffs come down to one or two wins that were earned because reserves were used to decide it. I don't mind ties so much but like I said before if I had know ties would be a factor it would have altered my draft strategy. I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way.

Jim said...

Ok, gentleman...you have spoken, and I have listened. For this point forward, ties will be counted as ties. There will be no tie breaker.

Sulceski said...

This is ridiculous, you can't be changing "from here forward". If you want to make a change it has to be retroactive to Day 1.

I'm taking a look at the standings, and being in last place, and notice that CO Yankees 4-5-1 and not 5-5-0. It would drop him to 4th place, and move Hoosier Heat up 1 place in the standings.

In the other division, Rockpile, would be 2-6-2, not 3-6-1.

You need to do this retroactive or not do it at all!!

Jim said...

I'm not spending anymore time on this, a decision has been made and we are all going to live with it. Whether your in first place at 8-2, or in last place at 2-8 or anywhere in between.

I have spoken.

Bullshit.

Nice to know that we play in a league where 2 out of the 12 owners complain about an issue and the Commissioner doesn't even put it to a vote. He simply rules with an iron fist, and with no consideration for the ramifications that it could have.

Shit, I feel like I'm living back in the Bush administration!!!

I'm the decider.

wow, i walk away for a couple of hours and the name calling is at an all-time high.

3k, you are an animal.

PG, you did the right thing, brother. i think its a fair change to put in play, and kudos for making it. I love this league, and the football league can't start soon enough ... I'm sick with draft fever. Hurts that its cubs/cards weekend ... linc and i will be drunk by 1st pick, i'd imagine.

Shane said...

Addendum to T-Dubs comment: drunk....naked...and circle jerking to the camera phone picture of Sean Sallsbury's wang by the first inning!

Deep thought...can only two people make the requisite circle in which to jerk? Discuss.

P.S. Why does Ryan get to be called Linc? I was in this hell hole first damn it! Plus I'm older and my looks resemble more of that of the locals.

I am wondering what the next issue is that'll cause the Comish headaches.

T-Dub said...

PG or McSizzle, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't/aren't you Linc "Linc" because of Shane being a jail bird about a year ago?

Shane, were you doing massive amounts of coke for 36 straight hours (baby gorilla style, pg have you read the book?) ... that was one random, hyper rant.

Not another word out of me about league set-up, point taken, Ger.

My mulleted brother speaks the truth, he does have an un-spoken connection with the locals moreso than I. In the spirit of my brother ruining his life this weekend (got engaged), I am willing to forfeit my nickname (currently "Linc") to him and search for a new identity.

PG and T-Dub, your assistance in this matter is grealy appreciated.

T-Dub, I'll be passed out by the time the Bears are on the clock.

Ryan's sexual orientation + his love of small wildlife = new nickname: Queer Bunny Fucker (QBF).
