Waiver Wire
Yesterday morning I inadvertantly set the date of the waiver process to begin today, March 23rd. Afterward, questions started pouring in about contract terms for those players. As you may have seen, I set the date to Monday, April 6th. This will allow you to sign all of your players (as the deadline is two days before Opening Day) before making any moves.

I'm a little confused???
So do I have to sign contracts to only the 25 guys I drafted, or is it possible to drop a guy I drafted beforehand in favor of the local 14-year old stud I saw play over the weekend so that I can sign him to a 3 year contract, instead of the aging 39 year old veteran?
You have to sign contracts for all of the players that you drafted. After the first week of the season, waivers will be activated and you can pick up that 14-year old stud (sign him to a one-year contract) and, of course, drop one player you drafted.
Just a random idea I thought I would throw out there...How about open up the waiver wire this week sometime and have free transactions(or even charge for them) up untill our contracts are due or opening day? Say if somebody who drafted only one catcher (or any position) and that catcher gets hurt before the season starts then that team would be without one for the first week of the season. Anybody we pick up before we turn in our contracts would still be eligible for a 1,2 or 3 year contract.
I officially second the motion, doesn't seem to be an unfair idea. Matter of fact, I think its a darn good thought.
I am also on board for this suggestion. Only up until the contracts are due, of course.
I believe we only need 67% to pass this, correct?
Just because you made a poor pick in the draft, why should you be able to pick up guys off waivers. How is the order determined?, etc...c'mon guys.
Basically you've had more time to do research, or the closer you drafted looks like a set-up guy now, so you want to dump the pick and get the incumbant.....sorry charlie..deal with your draft!!
We only need 5 more guys to say yes to this to put it in front of the commish.
I see both sides of the argument and while I agree, to some degree, that what you draft is what you keep until the season starts, I'm also sympathetic to the fact the some minor roster tweaking may be in order. Injuries and demotions are part of the game but so long as everyone has a fair chance to get their roster in order before the season starts I'm in favor of an open waiver wire up until contracts are in.
I agree it would be nice to make tweaks, but I think it takes away from the draft and even though it is something I might get screwed with as well, I think you deal with who you drafted..
I can certainly live with my draft, I'm just in favor of this proposal because this is the inaugural draft and it was sprung on many owners in this league less then 72 hours before the draft.
A little compassion should be shown for the new rules enacted. A guy like Bisho might not see this as he has already played under these rules for the past how many years??
I am more concerned with injuries that happen before week 1. I am sure most teams have at least 1 position without a backup right now...so if somebody goes down then they are pretty much screwed for opening week at that position...hell, just open it up for injuries only pick-ups.
Okay, even though PG killed the blog world as a result of his belief that it was egotistical, only to resurect the effort after other relevant content died (intentional effort in my mind), I will weigh in.
I like Mr. Hackman's idea...although for selfhish reasons. Did anyone realize that once there was 5 seconds left in the draft, the computer switched to your pick to "auto mode"? This happened to me twice...hence the Juan Pierre and Xavier Nady picks which still leave a bad taste in my mouth.
Let's move forward with this suggestion, as I believe it is valid and does not damage the integrity of the league moving forward.

My apologies for the rough copy of my previous comment. I left work to avoid blizzard conditions and ended up getting shit housed in an effort to ease the blow of my NCAA Tournament bracket going to hell.
Poorly constructed, and loaded with typo's (I promise, I know how to spell "selfish", as the word has probably been used to describe my overall disposition for years).

6 guys have voted in favor of an open waiver wire prior to contract signing. My calculations would have us needing only 2 more votes to put it in front of the commissioner for a decision.
