Fantasy Fees

Between now and the draft, I'm going to do some posts that will inform everyone on rules and features of the league. And orientation of sorts. Today I'll cover the league fees.

The league entry fee is a standard $50. After you have drafted your team (and starting on Opening Day), you will be assessed a $0.50 fee for every player that you drop and a $0.50 fee for every player that you add. For example, if you have 3B Carney Lansford and you would like to replace him with free agent Matt Williams, that's gonna cost you $1.00.

Yes, you will be charged when a player of yours gets injured (so you may wanna think twice when you draft that slugger that seems to go on the DL a lot). So when Rondell White gets turf toe, it's gonna cost you $0.50 to put him on the injured list and another $0.50 when he comes off. Keep in mind, you don't have to put him on the injured list if you don't want to. But if you want/need roster space, the injured list is the way to go.

With any trade you make, you'll incur a $1.00 flat fee.

The "minors" option is a fun little feature this year in our fantasy league. I'm looking into this in more detail to see exactly what the deal is. As of now, it is my understanding that the players must be in the minor league. I expanded the rosters to allow for 5 minor league players AND will add the caveat that your minor league players will be automatic keepers after this season (if you so choose to keep them-that'll give you a little extra incentive to research who's on their way up). As of now, it'll cost $1 to move a player from the minors to your roster and will cost $1 to move a player from your roster back to "minors" status.

I'm sure you guys will have some questions so fire away.

First off, Carney Lankford in any baseball example can only be from someone in our era. He had a fantastic mustache, if I recall.

Second, can you confirm that you are or are not requiring the fee up front? And in leagues that have charged fees in my history, there are times that a commish will require "some" pre-payment of those fees (can always pay back if not used in full) ... so you would charge $80 or so up front, assuming $30 in fees as a nice down payment or something.

Thoughts there? Did that even make sense? Bottom line, I think you should require pmt before so we keep things clean for end of year payouts and to keep it from being difficult for you to collect. Suggesting maybe you consider charging some of trans fees, too. My two cents, everyone agree, you PG?

Where in the hell is Hackman? Keeps talking about baseball fever to me on the side and has nothing to say ...

would the minors players be available to draft or is that a free agent type pickup after the draft is over?

Was there fantasy baseball back in the early '80's when Carney Lansford was torching the monster in Boston?

I know we're in a recession and all but $50. This is a 6-month long endeavor that I will no doubt spend WAY TOO many hours fixated upon, and more then likely ignore my wife to attempt to win. Can we at least make the fee $100?

How about clearing the transaction fees at the All-Star break. Basically whatever somebody owes in transactions has to be paid to the commish at that time. This way somebody doens't get nailed with a lump sum in October, while also giving new life to a guy who feels like he might be bogged down in transaction dollars.

What about making it interesting for guys dismantled by their draft and totally out of it by the All-Star break? How about having a 2nd half best record pot? Extra $25 gets thrown in up front (or $25 of the $100 entry goes towards it) and the best record in the 2nd half wins that.

Thanks for showing concern T-Dub...I really like the minor league option. I guess my question is do they have to be a in the minors to have him on your minor league squad? So for example..(I have Jeff Samardzija on my Minor League roster..he gets called up to the show...do I have to add him to my major league roster, drop him, or can I keep him on my minor league roster?)

Sulceski said...

Isn't Samardzija gonna make the roster out of camp? Just a question, haven't caught the Cubs 30-in-30 yet!

Most important is will the minor league spots be open for the draft? I want to know when I will need to be drafting some of these stud prospects/projects and will everyone be made available. For instance Jim Thome wasn't available in our draft last season???

Ok, this is one of the reasons why I convened a fantasy baseball steering committee. Too many ideas and everything eventually get homogenized and before you know it, we have a rule book a mile long. 3K, I know you're a Dem and love making the size of a governing body as large as humanly possible, but let's keep it simple. HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH

I'm gonna have to get a consensus on the $100 thing. I will say this, 3K, you'd be surprised how many scratch people rack up on moves (remember Baby Bisho?).

T-Dub, we can certainly ask for the pre-payment up front. Why don't we just do $50 up front and folks can pay off their move fees after the season. T-Dub, can they pay via the website?

Minors player WILL BE AVAILABLE DURING THE DRAFT. I am trying to see exactly what the sitch is when a minor leaguer gets called up (i.e. can you keep him on your minors roster, do you have to bring him up, etc). T-Dub, do you know the answer to this question?

Sulceski said...

Well I wasn't asked to be on the steering committee and I contend that if you wish this to be the best fantasy league to date then you need bipartisanship participation.

I'm assuming the reason why some league fees are so hard to collect after the season is because guys have totally lost interest because they're out of the money and become absent from the league. If there was a second half contest they might have a rooting interest and be more involved. It just makes sense....but then again I wouldn't expect the GOP to think sensical!

Sulceski said...

OK, I don't even think "sensical" is a word. HA. I meant sensible!

Jim said...

Funny, I always thought "sensical" was a word (as in 'your post was non-sensical').

Let's throw the idea around. Anyone for having a monetary prize for the team with the best second half record?

Sulceski said...

Being that the traffic on this site consists of me and the infamous steering committe it looks like the right side of the aisle is going to win.

Ha!!!

I did not take part in the steering committee, but I mostly never agree with you.

Shit ... I was absent yesterday afternoon, wow, lotta activity. I actually think the 2nd half record deal isn't a terrible idea, needs to be separate $ if done. Maybe 3k organizes that $ and whoever wants in can be in ... I don't plan to be in the bottom half, but I'd toss $25 in it. In other words, it could be a separate pool for those that want in.

PG, I'm working my understanding of the minor specifics, too. Sorry ... don't have much firm yet.

Can't pay through the league, it has to be exchanged outside the system. You can input $'s into finance tab on website, though, so people can see live damage.

Last thing, I know you don't want to have pages of rules, but the site does offer some write-in area that can give specifics to money, etc. That way anyone can look anytime at what we set in stone before the season starts.

Sulceski said...

What about upping the entry fee at least? From $50 to $100. Would like to actually have a decent payoff when I win this thing;)

For instance, Wade's fantasy playoff game was a hefty loot and I think most people can afford a c-note for 6-months of play.

As for transaction cost it won't faze me....I will draft like a rock star...HAHAHAHAHAH!

I, for one, am not a fan of the second half overall record payout. I believe the justification was that it would give incentive to those in the basement to compete the remainder of the year. Are we also going to have a payout for the owner who plays everyone on his team equally or to the team who hosts the most pizza parties after a shalacking? If last place teams don't have the internal fire to compete in the second half of the season, perhaps they are in the wrong league.

Jim said...

WOW, and there it is.

Unknown said...

I like pizza, but I agree, no second half re-do...

I think $50 works.

Someone just put a target on their back this fantasy season!!!

Don't dig in!

3K, you are the reigning fantasy football champion...of course there's a target on your back.
